The Gently Purr of My Engine

Updated: Jan 7, 2022

I made a choice to quiet the noise and have a moment with my thoughts in blissful solitude. The only sound around me was the gentle purr of my engine! As real estate investors, property owners and managers, we tend to get caught up in the ‘work’ and busyness of it all. But it is imperative that you make time for the things and people that are important to you as well as your own self-care. If asked, most Investors and Owners in the real estate space will tell you some of the reasons they got into this field is for financial freedom, or to build wealth, or to retire early and have that relaxing life at the beach. Well, it is equally important to enjoy the journey along the path of getting to your end goal.

So, I am not a car person per se, but I must give kudos to my husband for being one. My interest in cars/vehicles are three-fold:

- It functions in the capacity I need it

- It’s safe (especially with the kids traveling with me)

- The price is right

However, as I drive into work today, basking in the silence around me, I gained a new appreciation for my car. See, about 15 minutes into my drive I realized it was just me and my thoughts. This is rare for me, I’m usually returning a phone call, listening to a book on audible or kindle and most recently partaking in a discussion in the clubhouse on my drive.

As a wife, mother, full-time employee, entrepreneur and full-time homeschool teacher, there isn’t much time for ‘quiet’. In fact, these moments of solitude are so rare they often catch me by surprise much like today’s drive into work. As my awareness was brought into focus in that moment of solitude, I had to acknowledge the blessing and express my gratitude for the moment of quiet.

What do you do to quiet the noise in your life and find moments of solitude?
